Aariyana Hussain

Consultant

Aariyana’s professional interests and experiences span across various social issues such as gender equality, climate justice, child protection, mental health and empowering marginalised communities. Having worked in various leadership, social research, advocacy, and consultancy roles across Bangladesh, Australia and Indonesia, Aariyana has developed a diverse toolkit of skills.

As a Social Science graduate from the University of Queensland (UQ), Aariyana is equipped with theoretical and practical understandings of social research, with strengths in qualitative research methods and thematic analyses. She has also worked as a Research Assistant at UQ’s Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR), in a longitudinal, multi-perspective study on enhancing children’s outcomes in the out-of-home care system in Australia.

Aariyana’s other experiences include co-founding a mental health platform in Bangladesh, participating in UQ’s collaborative consultations in Indonesia to understand how welfare programs are faring in local villages, and interning in various NGOs such as Amnesty International Australia (AIA).

With a strong passion for driving social justice and change, Aariyana believes in policies and practices that are driven by evidence-based research, the importance of understanding communities’ lived experiences, and the need for context and an intersectional lens when analysing social issues.
